In My Family / En mi familia is by Carmen Lomas Garza.
Family Pictures/Cuadros de familia (1990), Lomas Garza uses her narrative paintings to relate her memories of growing up in Kingsville, Texas, near the Mexican border, and to reflect her pride in her Mexican American heritage. The artist portrays everyday events as well as special moments of family history in crisply colorful, vibrantly peopled paintings and provides brief, bilingual background stories for each of the 13 paintings. Another sparkling family album that lovingly shares the artist's memories of the Hispanic cultural experience as lived in the Southwest.
The pictures in this book are so detailed. It reminds me so much of many of my family's homes growing up in Texas. Great childrens book.

Family Pictures, / Cuadros de Familia is by Carmen Lomas Garza and illustrated by Sandra Cisneros.
Lomas Garza presents a charming series of paintings while relating remembrances of her childhood in Kingsville, Texas, near the Mexican border. The brilliantly colored images teem with life and exude the glow of nostalgia. Lomas Garza's vignettes are similar in their primitive folk style to those of Grandma Moses. Whether it's the family eating watermelon on the porch, Grandfather taking a skinned rabbit into the kitchen for dinner, or a dead hammerhead shark on the beach, each moment is fully captured in all its freshness and immediacy. The English text is simple and reads smoothly, but it is Zubizarreta's Spanish rendition that has real verve and style. From the exquisite cut-paper images on the text pages, to the brilliant paintings, to the strong family bonds expressed in the text, Family Pictures/Cuadros de familia is a visual feast, and an aural delight.
Family Pictures is an excellent example of an autobiographical as well as multicultural book written for children from kindergarten through fourth grade. Lomas Garza covers a short period of her own childhood and the social life and customs of Hispanic Americans. The reader's attention is held by the detailed illustrations done in a variety of materials including oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, and gouache on arches paper. While children will be drawn by the wonderful paintings, they will be learning a great deal about the Hispanic culture.
I like this book because the illustration are great beacause the family is together. I like how she is an arthor and illustrator and I also liked that family pictures is her favorite book. http://www.amazon.com/Pictures-Anniversary-Cuadros-Familia-Quincea%C3%B1era/dp/0892392061/ref=pd_sim_b_1

Genre Presentation:
I am so happy that my group was finally able to present our genre presentation. We all work hard and we try are best. I learn so much more about the story of Anne Frank and I appreciate literature a whole lot now. I was happy our skit came out great and presentation too. The other genre presentation groups did such a great job everyone was creative and interesting. Doing this genre project, I was able to learn how to present literature in a fun, informative, and creative way.
