Chapter 8
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs is a children's book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. Released in a number of editions since its first release in 1989, it is the story of The Three Little Pigs as told by the Big Bad Wolf, known in the book as "A. Wolf," short for "Alexander T. Wolf." The book, as indicated at the beginning, basically tries to show that the Wolf from The Three Little Pigs does not necessarily have to be "Big" and "Bad". The wolf justifies his journeys to the little pigs' houses as needing to ask for some sugar to bake a cake for his dear Granny's birthday, his "huffing and puffing" as him having a cold and "sneeze[ing] a great sneeze", and his eating of the pigs as not letting good meat go to waste, since the pigs die in the sneeze anyway. At the very end of the book, it is revealed that the wolf has been telling the whole story from prison telling the reader that "he's been framed".
This book is a good way to get your students to start to think about the possibility that there is more than one "side" to a story, but that would just make this book sound "educational" and where would be the fun in THAT!? This book is a delightful story that lends itself to ridiculous levels of "hamming" things up when reading it aloud.

Karen Magnuson Beil wrote the book A Cake All for Me!
It is about a piggy that mixes and bakes a cake that he plans to eat all by himself. However, when visitors arrive, the happy cook discovers the joy of sharing with friends. This book is excellent for preschool through kindergarten. The Skills that are learned from the book include:rhyme/rhythm, counting 1 to 20, measuring and cooking.(There are two pages devoted to measurement, as well as a recipe for the cake.) The best thing about this book is that the pig learns to share, because he sees the value in sharing with his friends. This is an excellent book to help one teach this value.

Chapter 8
In chapter 8 I learn about The Fiction Family: Realistic Fiction, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and Science Fiction. I love in this chapter the quote by Katherine Paterson, it says, "Fiction … must first of all be good fiction—the exploration in narrative form of human experience." I learn there are four categories for fiction. They are Contemporary Realistic, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and Science Fiction. Contemporary Realistic is Peer relationships, Family relationships, Realistic animals, Adventure and survival, and Humorous. Historical Fiction is usually categorized by time period and Popular eras. Fantasy is Toys and animals, Time-shift, Ghosts, and the supernatural. Science Fiction is an Element based on scientific theory and not currently possible.
Stiletto Stoners Video
The video 'Stiletto stoners,' are educated and successful women who smoke marijuana to relax at the end of a workday. In addition, it may just be a growing trend among young women, according to a new study by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Statistics say that at least eight million American women have smoked marijuana in the past year. What I think this is crazy. I would never consider pot has a solution to my problems. I will never smoke pot and it does not interest me. This video is crazy!!!
